The Toronto Christmas Market 2026 runs November 12, 2026 to January 3, 2027 at the Distillery District, and it is now officially called the Distillery Winter Village. Entry is free a lot more often than people assume: all day Monday to Wednesday through December 13, all day on Thursdays in November, and before 4 p.m. on the days that are ticketed.

The paid evenings are the busy ones. If you only want the lights and the tree without a queue or a ticket, go on a weekday afternoon in November. If you want the full crowd and carollers version, you are buying a dated ticket online in advance, because there is no box office at the gate.

Toronto Christmas Market 2026 dates and hours

The market is at 55 Mill Street, just east of Parliament Street and south of Front Street East. It is closed on Christmas Day.

  • Season: November 12, 2026 to January 3, 2027
  • Tree lighting: Thursday, November 12 at 6 p.m., with a Santa countdown
  • Doors: the Distillery District opens at 10 a.m. daily
  • Cabins: the outdoor shopping cabins and food vendors open at noon

Closing times shift through the season, and the organisers publish a day by day schedule. Check that rather than assuming a standard closing hour, especially around Christmas and New Year’s.

One more timing note. The full programming list, including the seasonal vendors, performances and special experiences, is announced in late October. Santa’s Village, the carollers, the Nutcracker immersive experience and the holiday photo spots are all confirmed as returning.

When you need a ticket, and when you do not

This is the part that saves you money. Tickets are only required at these times:

  • Opening night, November 12
  • From 4 p.m. every Friday, Saturday and Sunday
  • From 4 p.m. every Thursday in December
  • From 4 p.m. daily, December 14 to 31
  • New Year’s Eve, 7 p.m. to midnight, which is a separate $30 ticket

Everything else is free to walk into:

  • All day Monday to Wednesday through December 13
  • All day on Thursdays in November, apart from opening night
  • Before 4 p.m. on any ticketed day

The catch on that last one is real. You have to be inside before 4 p.m., not arriving at 4 p.m. Get there by 3:30 p.m. and you are in for nothing, and nobody makes you leave when the paid window starts.

Toronto Christmas Market ticket prices

All tickets are sold online in advance. There is no on site box office, and they are non-refundable.

TicketBase priceAll inWhat it gets you
General Admission$16.00$19.89Entry for one date and time. Non-exchangeable.
Flex$18.00$22.37Change your date up to two times at no cost
Express Gate Entry$30.00$37.29Unlimited date changes plus skip the line at every gate

The all in column includes the service fee and HST. Kids aged 9 and under are always free and do not need a ticket at all.

A few rules worth knowing before you click buy:

  • Flex changes have to be requested by 11:59 p.m. the day before your visit, and they depend on there being space on the new date.
  • Express changes can go through even if the new time slot is sold out, right up to the time of your visit.
  • You cannot split a bundle of tickets across different dates.
  • If you have a dinner reservation at one of the district’s restaurants, or a ticket to a show at one of the theatres, you do not need a Winter Village ticket. You do need to show security proof of the booking.

That last one is the quiet workaround. A booked table gets you through the gate on a Saturday night without a separate admission.

Getting there without the parking headache

The Distillery District is pedestrian only, with cobblestone streets, so driving to the door is not a thing. Take the 504A King streetcar to Distillery Loop on Cherry Street, which puts you steps from the gates. You can also walk from Union Station, or from the King and Queen streetcar lines.

If you are new to the system, our TTC beginner’s guide covers fares, transfers and the Presto tap. If you are driving in from out of town anyway, park once downtown and take transit the rest of the way. The downtown parking guide has the evening flat rates.

The official advice is to arrive early because line-ups are expected. That applies to the free afternoons too, not just the ticketed evenings.

How to actually do it right

Some practical shape for the visit, based on how the ticketing is set up:

  • Cheapest good visit: a Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday in late November or early December. Free all day, and it is dark by 5 p.m., so you still get the lights.
  • Avoid: the last two weekends before Christmas after 4 p.m. That is peak ticket demand and peak queue.
  • Eat before or after, not during, unless you want to pay market prices for a meal. Food cabins are the point for a lot of people, but it adds up fast.
  • Dress for standing still. The district is open to the wind and you will be moving slowly. Our Toronto in November guide has the packing list.
  • Pair it with one indoor stop so you have somewhere warm to retreat to.

The free alternative, and what else is on

If you do not want to pay or queue at all, Cavalcade of Lights runs November 28, 2026 to January 7, 2027 at Nathan Phillips Square, 5 p.m. to 10 p.m., and all of it is free. That includes the light installations and free public skating to music. Opening night has main stage performances, the tree and square lighting, and a figure skating showcase.

The two work well as a pair. The Winter Village is the shopping and food one, Cavalcade is the lights and skating one, and they overlap from November 28 onward. For the rest of the no-cost list, see our guide to free things to do in Toronto.
