CN Tower EdgeWalk starts at $199 per person and the 360 Restaurant runs on a $75 minimum food spend. Both include the elevator ride and access to the observation levels, so neither one needs a separate general admission ticket on top.

That is the part most people get wrong. They buy a $47 admission ticket, then book dinner or a walk, and pay twice for the same elevator. Here is what each of the premium options actually includes, and which ticket to buy if you only want the view.

What CN Tower EdgeWalk costs and what you get

EdgeWalk is the hands-free walk around the outside ledge of the main pod, 356 m (1,168 ft) up. Guinness World Records certifies it as the highest external walk on a building anywhere.

Tickets start at $199. The whole experience takes about 90 minutes, of which 30 minutes are spent out on the ledge. The rest is base camp: orientation, harness, security and health screening, and the waiver.

What the price covers:

  • A full orientation and the walk suit
  • 30 minutes on the ledge, attached to an overhead rail
  • A certificate of achievement
  • A complimentary video and two printed photographs
  • A ticket to visit the rest of the tower, including The Top

That last line is the one worth reading twice. The Top normally costs $12 on top of general admission, and EdgeWalk hands it to you. So the real comparison is $199 against the $59 you would have spent on admission plus The Top anyway.

A few practical notes. Arrive 30 minutes early. You walk out with nothing but your clothes and your eyewear, which gets a lanyard. Wallets, keys, phones and removable jewellery all go into lockers at base camp, and no personal recording devices are allowed on the walk. Wear running shoes or enclosed lace-up footwear, and if you did not pack any, they will lend you a pair. Hats, gloves and jackets come out based on the weather.

EdgeWalk is seasonal. The CN Tower lists it as open for the season instead of fixed months, and it does not run during electrical storms, dangerously high winds or extreme weather. If a walk is the reason for your trip, check the official page before you book flights.

Who can do EdgeWalk, and who cannot

The requirements are stricter than most visitors expect, and they are published in the tower’s terms and conditions. You can walk if you:

  • Are 13 or older (13 to 17 need a parent or legal guardian at check-in for written consent, plus ID)
  • Weigh more than 75 lb (34 kg) and less than 310 lb (140 kg)
  • Are in good physical health with full body control and hand-eye-foot coordination
  • Can walk independently, without walking aids or medical devices

You cannot walk if you are pregnant, have broken bones, had surgery in the past six months, had a seizure in the past six months without holding a driver’s licence, or have chest pain or shortness of breath. Missing or partly missing limbs also rules it out, and anyone under the influence of alcohol or any drug, legal or not, is turned away at check-in.

Tickets are non-refundable. You can move your date or time up to 72 hours before the walk, subject to availability, and you get a full credit valid for 12 months. Inside 72 hours, that money is gone. For accessible options, the EdgeWalk line is 416-601-3833.

The 360 Restaurant: what the $75 minimum buys

The 360 Restaurant is not a prix fixe you have to order. It is a minimum spend: $75 on food per adult, and $40 per child aged 4 to 12. That minimum includes your elevation to the restaurant and access to the Main and Lower Observation Levels after your meal.

The prix fixe menu is simply the easiest way to hit it:

OptionPrice per person
Two courses$75
Three courses$90

Both exclude tax and gratuity. A few dishes carry supplements, like $6 for the premium bread basket and $15 to $40 for larger cuts of prime rib. The wine list leans Ontario, which is the right call in a room that is already showing off.

The room completes one full rotation every 72 minutes, so a leisurely dinner gets you the whole skyline without moving. Lunch runs 11:30 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. and dinner from 4:30 p.m. to 9:45 p.m. Reservations go through OpenTable. The dress code runs from smart casual to formal.

One catch: 360 guests do not get complimentary access to The Top. That is a separate ticket, bought on the day and subject to availability.

Kids 2 and under are free. Tickets go on sale up to 30 days out. Which premium option to pick

  • Pick EdgeWalk if the point is the story. It is seasonal, weather dependent and non-refundable, so build the rest of your day around it rather than squeezing it in.
  • Pick the 360 Restaurant if you want to sit with the view for two hours. At a $75 minimum that includes the elevator and the observation levels, it is closer to admission plus a good dinner than to a pure splurge.
  • Pick neither if you mostly want the skyline in a photo. The view of the tower from the Toronto Islands is the shot people actually recognise, and the ferry is a fraction of the price.

Timing, closures and getting there

The observation levels run 10 a.m. to 11 p.m., with last entry at 9 p.m. The tower also books private events, which closes parts of it to visitors. From the official closures page, the Main Observation Level is unavailable from 2:30 p.m. until close on Tuesday October 21. Partial closures run from 4 p.m. on Tuesday October 27, and from 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday November 3 and Friday November 6. The 360 Restaurant, The Top and the Lower Observation Level stay open on those dates. Check the closures page the morning you go.

Bags smaller than 53 x 23 x 38 cm are fine. Anything larger is refused and there is no bag check for luggage, so leave the suitcase at your hotel. If you are coming straight from the airport, our Pearson to downtown guide gets you to Union Station, and the enclosed SkyWalk covers the last 10 minutes on foot. Fares and tapping in are in the TTC beginner’s guide.
